I love re-purposing materials that would otherwise be going to a landfill or even recycling since it uses more energy than re-purposing. This is a great way to recycle plastic soda and water bottles. The basic idea is to stack the plastic bottles, filled with soil, then cut holes in the sides and plant your veggies, herbs or whatever in them. The watering and drainage system is very clever and efficient, both from the perspective of time spent watering and water wastage.
I’m definitely going to try this, even though I haven’t come close to filling the space I have available for my garden. I’m wondering if it’s going to help prevent snails from devastating my tender vegetables, like lettuce. With a system like this they are going to have to travel a much greater vertical distance to get to more plants.
I think this would be an attractive way to fence off or partition an outdoor space.
